Hiring Company Name
Tectonic Platform Labs
Required Skills or Tools
Strong fundamentals in Linux, networking, and containers; experience with Kubernetes and infrastructure as code; practical CI/CD design; and an operational mindset focused on reliability, security, and cost awareness. Proficiency with Git, scripting (Bash/Python), and at least one cloud provider is expected. Clear documentation, thoughtful code review, and calm incident handling are essential.
Project Details
Project Description
This role builds and evolves the internal platform that product teams depend on. The platform provides opinionated workflows for building, testing, deploying, and observing services with secure defaults. You will partner with application teams to understand friction points, transform them into paved paths, and measure results through faster lead times, higher change success rates, and lower incident frequency.
Core Responsibilities and Expected Deliverables
You will design and run multi-tenant Kubernetes clusters with sensible guardrails; create reusable modules and blueprints for infrastructure as code; and establish CI/CD pipelines with automated testing, progressive delivery, and safe rollbacks. You will implement observability with actionable SLOs and on-call practices that prioritize human-friendly operations. Deliverables include versioned Terraform and Helm assets, a GitOps deployment model, golden-service templates, and self-service documentation that enables teams to ship without bespoke support.
Required Experience and Preferred Qualifications
Candidates should demonstrate hands-on operations experience and pragmatic automation. Preferred qualifications include familiarity with service meshes, secret management, policy as code, cost monitoring, feature flags, and disaster recovery design. Experience participating in or improving on-call rotations, running blameless incident reviews, and defining error budgets is a strong plus. Certifications are welcome but portfolio evidence and clear reasoning are more important.
Tools or Platforms to Be Used
The stack typically includes Kubernetes, container registries, and GitOps (Argo CD or Flux) backed by infrastructure as code (Terraform, Helm). CI/CD is delivered via GitHub Actions or GitLab CI with automated tests and policy gates (OPA, Conftest). Observability covers metrics, logs, and traces (Prometheus, Loki, Tempo, Grafana, OpenTelemetry). Secrets and identity use Vault or cloud-native services with SSO (Okta/Azure AD). Work spans AWS, GCP, or Azure with networking, storage, and security primitives configured by code.
Language Requirement
English is required for daily collaboration; additional languages are appreciated for cross-region coordination but not required.
Communication Style
Asynchronous-first via Slack and Git with weekly Zoom standups, design reviews, and runbook drills. Architecture decisions are captured as concise ADRs with diagrams, SLO targets, and rollback plans to ensure shared understanding.
Time Commitment or Working Window
Approximately 40 hours per week with flexible scheduling. An equitable, compensated on-call rotation supports critical services; maintenance windows and cutovers are planned in advance with post-implementation reviews.
Payment Terms
Monthly salary with annual performance review and bonus eligibility. For contractors, milestone-based deliverables with biweekly invoicing on net-15 terms.
Evaluation Criteria
Candidates are assessed through a practical exercise to provision a small, observable service with CI/CD and GitOps; a portfolio or repository review focusing on readability, security, and operational hygiene; a live troubleshooting session using metrics, logs, and traces; and references confirming reliability, communication, and ownership.
Other Requirements
A standard NDA applies upon offer acceptance along with identity verification and reference checks consistent with local laws. Because the role touches production systems, security and privacy training is required during onboarding. Light-touch time tracking applies for contractors to support accurate billing and audits.
