Job Details
Project Description
You will join the team that operates Ironbridge Telecomβs multi-region IP network linking data centers, edge PoPs, and enterprise customer sites. The purpose of the role is to enhance reliability, reduce manual toil through automation, and extend our footprint as we light new routes and onboard customers to managed connectivity services and SD-WAN.
Core Responsibilities and Expected Deliverables
You will stage and deploy routers, switches, and firewalls; implement standard templates for BGP, OSPF, and QoS; and produce clearly versioned configuration changes using Git. You will assist in planned maintenance, participate in incident response to restore service quickly, and provide post-incident documentation with concrete follow-ups. Deliverables include well-tested change plans, device readiness checklists, updated topology diagrams, and repeatable Ansible playbooks for common tasks such as interface turn-ups and prefix-list updates.
Required Experience and Preferred Qualifications
We value curiosity and a willingness to learn above all. A bachelorβs degree in a relevant field or equivalent hands-on experience from internships, home labs, or bootcamps is welcome. Industry certifications such as CCNA, JNCIA, or Network+ are appreciated but not mandatory. Applicants with exposure to MPLS, EVPN, or cloud networking in AWS or Azure will stand out.
Tools or Platforms to Be Used
Daily tools include Cisco IOS-XE and NX-OS, Juniper Junos, Fortinet or Palo Alto firewalls, NetBox for source-of-truth, Git and GitHub for version control, Ansible for automation, Wireshark and tcpdump for troubleshooting, and Prometheus with Grafana for telemetry and alerting via PagerDuty.
Language Requirement
English is required for documentation and customer communication; Spanish or French is a plus.
Communication Style
Project discussions and daily syncs occur in Slack with video sessions on Zoom. Formal updates, maintenance notices, and incident reports are shared by email and stored in our knowledge base.
Time Commitment or Working Window
Standard 40 hours per week with core collaboration from 10:00 to 16:00 Central Time. An on-call rotation is expected roughly one week every six to eight weeks with an additional stipend.
Payment Terms
Salaried with semi-monthly payroll. On-call and approved overtime are compensated according to company policy.
Evaluation Criteria
Candidates are assessed on foundational networking knowledge, clarity of communication, and problem-solving. The selection process includes a brief technical screen, a scenario-based troubleshooting exercise, and a panel interview. Evidence of lab work, a GitHub with configuration examples, or contributions to automation will be highly valued.
Other Requirements
Finalists may be asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement and pass a standard background check. All engineers follow our change-management process and security policies aligned to SOC 2 practices. Reasonable overlap with Central Time is required.
